# How to lock Solana tokens with cliff and vesting schedules

URL: https://www.solz.app/docs/guides/lock-solana-tokens
Lock Solana tokens on Solz.app for 0.002 SOL. Compare Simple and Advanced vesting locks, see real locks after they're created, and choose settings for your team.

## How do I lock Solana tokens on Solz.app?

Open Create Token Lock on Solz.app, select your token and enter an amount. Choose Simple to unlock everything on one date, or Advanced to release tokens over time. Enter a recipient and the dates, check the summary, click Create Lock and sign. It costs 0.002 SOL per lock, and every lock gets a public page.

## Prerequisites

- A Solana wallet that holds the tokens you want to lock.
- A little SOL for the 0.002 SOL fee and network costs.
- The wallet that should receive the tokens, and your dates.

## Steps to create a token lock

1. **Open the tool and connect your wallet.** Go to [Create Token Lock](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/create).
2. **Select the token.** SPL, Tax, Pump.fun and liquidity pool (LP) tokens all work.
3. **Choose Simple or Advanced.** [The difference is below](#whats-the-difference-between-simple-and-advanced-locks).
4. **Enter the amount and a title.** The title is optional, and it's the name buyers see, such as Team Tokens.
5. **Enter the recipient.** This wallet is the only one that can claim the tokens. It starts as your connected wallet.
6. **Set the dates.** Simple asks for an Unlock date. Advanced asks for a Cliff date, a Cliff unlock amount, a Vesting duration and an Unlock frequency.
7. **Choose who can cancel, and who can change the recipient.** Both start on None, which is what buyers want to see.
8. **Check the summary, and create it.** The summary repeats your terms and draws the release chart. Click Create Lock and approve in your wallet.

To create several locks at once, click Add another lock. One transaction holds up to 4.

## What's the difference between Simple and Advanced locks?

A Simple lock releases everything at once on one date. An Advanced lock releases part on a cliff date, then the rest bit by bit over the time you choose. Use Simple to prove tokens can't move before a date, and Advanced to pay out tokens gradually, as with a team's vesting.

| | Simple | Advanced, or vesting |
| --- | --- | --- |
| How tokens unlock | All at once | Part at the cliff, then the rest in steps |
| Dates you set | Unlock date | Cliff date, Vesting duration and Unlock frequency |
| Amounts you set | Lock amount | Total lock amount and Cliff unlock amount, which can be 0 |
| Release chart | One step | A staircase |
| Page shows | Unlock date | Vesting period, and the rate per step |
| Fee | 0.002 SOL | 0.002 SOL |
| Good for | A fixed date, such as a listing or a long-term hold | Team, marketing and reserve tokens |

### Simple: SOLZ locked for a year

The [Solz lock](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/81Cy4TB1DRWPaPagifjdigToJUT6Q4ufcUxYi7KLNwRP) holds 2,000 SOLZ until May 23, 2027. These are its settings in the form, where the summary says All 2,000 SOLZ unlock on May 23 2027:

### Advanced: 8.96 million MET

This [Meteora lock](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/HGDXwUmGjkJqxLQzc21Ws1joFGeLAWSurJ4RJNQyQ6tw) holds about 8.96 million MET on Jupiter Lock. It released 1.69 million at its cliff on May 8, 2026, then releases about 24,555 MET a day for 296 days. Here are the same settings with a cliff on February 8, 2027, because the form needs a future date:

The rate is the amount left after the cliff, divided by the number of steps:

| Step | Unlocks | Total unlocked |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cliff | 1,694,281 | 1,694,281 |
| Each day, for 296 days | About 24,555 | Up by the same amount each day |
| Day 296 | The last of it | 8,962,500 |

## What does a lock look like after it's created?

Every lock gets a public page and a card in Locked Tokens, so anyone can check it. The page shows how much is locked, unlocked, claimable and claimed, with the dates, the release chart, the token, and who can cancel it. Buyers can check it without trusting your word, and you can share the link.

This is the [Meteora lock](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/HGDXwUmGjkJqxLQzc21Ws1joFGeLAWSurJ4RJNQyQ6tw) on November 4, 2026. About 68% has unlocked, and none of it has been claimed, so 6.09 million MET is ready to claim. Another 24.55K unlocks each day:

This is the Simple SOLZ lock on the same day. Nothing has unlocked, and it shows a single step on its unlock date:

And this is a long lock that nobody can end. This [Bonk lock](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/HtWXjYu2L8SgHWy98VXbPRT8ok8dVMeUSHxhDqq48E63) holds 875.66 million BONK until March 11, 2028:

[Locked Tokens](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/locked) lists locks made on Solz.app, with three well-known Jupiter locks at the top. You can search by lock name, token, creator or recipient:

| Badge | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| Locked | Nothing is available to claim yet |
| Unlockable | Some tokens have unlocked and are ready for the recipient to claim |
| Completed | Everything has unlocked and been claimed |
| Cancelled | The lock was cancelled |
| Cancellable | Someone can still end this lock early |
| Transferrable | Someone can still change the recipient |

## How are real projects using token locks?

Projects lock tokens to show buyers that supply can't move before a set date. Well-known tokens use these same Jupiter Lock schedules, and they can pay out over time or stay fixed for years. We read these on November 4, 2026. None of this is a recommendation to buy these tokens.

| Use case | Real lock | Mode | Schedule |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Paying out over time | [Meteora, 8.96M MET](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/HGDXwUmGjkJqxLQzc21Ws1joFGeLAWSurJ4RJNQyQ6tw) | Advanced | 1.69M at the cliff, then daily for 296 days |
| A long, fixed lock | [Bonk, 875.66M BONK](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/HtWXjYu2L8SgHWy98VXbPRT8ok8dVMeUSHxhDqq48E63) | Simple | All on March 11, 2028 |
| A vesting lock that was ended | [dogwifhat, about 14M WIF](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/9tTkAqigYBKcGWXyoMsJyj4s1NJWvFN1cWTkrYkifnLt) | Advanced | Monthly for 3 years, cancelled on February 2, 2025 |
| Team tokens | [CHONK Team Tokens](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/A7rJByLH2UGreo3WkEhYBaBgRc49SVmQcvBoxevntBog) | Advanced | 50M: 10M at the cliff, then weekly for 12 weeks |
| Long-term hold | [Solz](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/81Cy4TB1DRWPaPagifjdigToJUT6Q4ufcUxYi7KLNwRP) | Simple | 2,000 SOLZ, all on May 23, 2027 |

You can also lock [liquidity pool tokens](https://www.solz.app/docs/guides/burn-lp-tokens) to show the liquidity can't be pulled before a date, and still get it back afterwards.

## Who can cancel a lock or change its recipient?

Nobody, unless you choose otherwise when you create it. You can allow the creator, the recipient or both, for 0.05 SOL per permission on each lock. Cancelling sends unlocked tokens to the recipient and returns the rest to the creator. Buyers see a badge, so a cancellable lock proves much less.

The Meteora lock above shows both badges, because its creator can cancel it or change its recipient. This [dogwifhat lock](https://www.solz.app/token/lock/9tTkAqigYBKcGWXyoMsJyj4s1NJWvFN1cWTkrYkifnLt) shows what happens after a cancel. It was set to run for 3 years and was cancelled on February 2, 2025, so its page shows Cancelled, nothing locked and no release chart:

| Setting | Choose it if | What buyers see |
| --- | --- | --- |
| None | You want the strongest proof | No extra badge, and No one on the page |
| Creator | You may need to take back unvested tokens, such as when a team member leaves | Cancellable, or Transferrable |
| Recipient | The recipient may need to move to a new wallet | Cancellable, or Transferrable |
| Creator or Recipient | Either side may need to act | Cancellable, or Transferrable |

You can't add or remove these permissions after the lock is created.

## How do I claim tokens from a lock?

Connect the recipient wallet, open the lock's page and click Claim, then approve in your wallet. Only the recipient can claim, and only what has already unlocked. You pay only the network fee. On a vesting lock, you can claim after each step, or leave them to add up and claim together.

If your wallet isn't the recipient, the button says so. A recipient you can change is under Edit recipient on the same page, and a lock you can end is under Cancel lock.

## What should I see when a lock succeeds or fails?

When it works, Solz.app says Token lock created successfully, and the lock appears in Locked Tokens with its own page. If your wallet is short of tokens or SOL, a red message says so and nothing is locked. Claims, cancels and recipient changes each have their own message, listed below.

| What you see | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Token lock created successfully | Your lock is on Solana | Open its page and share the link |
| Claim completed | The unlocked tokens are in the recipient's wallet | Check your balance |
| Lock cancelled | Unlocked tokens went to the recipient, and the rest returned to the creator | Nothing, because this can't be undone |
| Recipient updated | The new wallet claims from now on | Check the page |
| This wallet doesn't have enough tokens or SOL for this lock. Check your balances and try again. | You can't cover the amount or the costs | Lower the amount, or add SOL |
| Your wallet holds none of this token, so there's nothing to lock yet. | This wallet doesn't hold the token | Connect the wallet that does |
| Set a valid unlock date to preview the lock schedule. | The date is missing or isn't valid | Enter the date |
| Only the recipient wallet can claim | The connected wallet isn't the recipient | Connect the recipient wallet |
| No claimable amount yet, or Nothing claimable yet | Nothing has unlocked | Check the next unlock on the page |
| Unable to claim lock, or Unable to cancel lock | The transaction didn't go through | Check your SOL, then try again |

## How much does a token lock cost on Solz.app?

A lock costs 0.002 SOL, and network costs come on top. Each permission adds 0.05 SOL per lock: one for letting someone cancel, and one for letting someone change the recipient. Claiming and cancelling cost only the network fee. You choose how many tokens to lock, and they aren't a fee.

| Item | Cost |
| --- | --- |
| Create a lock | 0.002 SOL per lock |
| Let someone cancel | +0.05 SOL per lock |
| Let someone change the recipient | +0.05 SOL per lock |
| Claim or cancel | Network fee only |

So 4 locks with no permissions cost 0.008 SOL. The form shows the total before you sign.

## FAQ

### Can I get my tokens back early?

Only if you allowed cancelling when you created the lock. With None, nobody can release the tokens before the schedule, including you.

### Does a token lock show as a lock on DexScreener?

No. To earn DexScreener's padlock, [burn your liquidity pool tokens](https://www.solz.app/docs/guides/burn-lp-tokens). A lock gives buyers its public page instead.

### Can I lock a tax token?

Yes, but the transfer fee is added on top of what you lock and taken again on release. See [how to lock a tax token](https://www.solz.app/docs/guides/token-2022-transfer-fee#lock-a-tax-token).

### Who runs the lock?

Locks run on the audited Jupiter Lock program, not on Solz.app. Tokens sit in an on-chain account until they're claimed, and the page links to it as the Lock ID.

### Can I open a lock created on Jupiter?

Yes. Add its address to `https://www.solz.app/token/lock/` to see its schedule, status and who can cancel it. Claim, Cancel and Edit recipient only work for the wallets the lock allows. Most Jupiter locks open by link only, and don't appear in Locked Tokens.

### Can I send a lock to someone else?

Yes. Enter their wallet as the recipient when you create it. Only they can claim the tokens.
